Hey! I'm k and I'm in year 12 studying Units 3 & 4 Lit in addition to English 3 & 4, bc my school made it mandatory for us to do English if we picked Lit for some reason 😠(i don't dislike english but enjoy the freedom of Lit a lot more; less/no structure, no set interpretation, yay!) But given one of these subjects or both will be in my top 4 subjects contributing to my ATAR, I've gotta work hard on both!
This year for English at my school we are studying 'We Have Always Lived In The Castle' (novel), and 'Rainbows End' (play). I seriously loved reading WHALITC, despite having heard many negative opinions of it. I've always really liked gothic fiction and appreciated the feminist aspects of the text. I don't hate the sisters; but I always seem to side with the unreliable narrator for whatever reason lol, despite their often questionable actions. But i get that everyone has their own opinions, and even one of my friends dislikes this text 😠she said it's too dark... (maybe i just read too many gothic texts, and lately psychological thrillers lol- don't judge my reading taste pls!! i just like books that make me think)
Anyways, thought i'd make a space here to discuss our English texts, whether they're the same as what I'm studying or not. I think it can help to hear lots of different opinions and i get that some people don't feel comfortable sharing their thoughts in a classroom setting. I just like talking about stuff in general but being the overly analytical bookworm that I am, I especially like talking with others about their thoughts on certain texts. Plus my English and Lit classes don't seem to like discussing in person so much, so i don't really get to chat with lots of people in school about the texts we are studying
