Hi acedemic_achiver
I did the JMSS entrace exam this year and got into interviews. I strongly recommend the edutests practice tests and making sure u have a good speed for the questions. I think there might be some tips posted on another thread of mine but basically, PRACTICE YOUR MATHS. Get comfortable and dont be intimidated by the questions. I studied 3 months in advance and did not do any tutoring for science only maths for the first month to make sure I got the hang of it (for reference I got a below average during the selective exam last year)The exam (if you did the acer one this year for sehs, it was easy) doesnt go too in depth , like the questions are pretty shallow its just that there are a lot of them... Timing is a huge part of it.
For the writing portion make sure you know how to write a discussion and practice just writing in general to build up ur skills. They were pretty generous with the time with 5 min planning given and 30 min writing. Read articles and watch videos (veritassium and ted ed), EDUCATE URSELF on world issues. Be a woke teenager.
Best of luck and hope you get in!
boo For the test it was just maths for me and there was also a separate form they ask you to fill out to list your achievements and basically write down your answers to the questions they asked previously.
There was two sets of interviews last year one with a panel of 4 people and another with just 2 people. Be confident and honest.
Best of luck and msg if u need anything- Edited
Omg congrats, Last year when I did it they told me that there were 300 applicants and they called in 15 (your in the top 5% woohooo) to first round interviews (which was solo and included a maths test) and later had a second round (which consisted of family interviews but I think they only called 7 out of 15 to this round). They asked me standard interview questions, some of which were a bit strange like
- "why do you want to leave your school",
-"did you go to tutoring in preparation for the selective exam",
-"Did you make it into selective"
-"what school will you be going to next year if not here"
-"Have you ever been overseas, if so how many countries (try say something like "im very grateful that my parents really tried to give me the best experiences yadayada") - "Do you have siblings?"
- "What was a difficult time in your life and how did you overcome it?" (I really struggled with this one but remember this isnt a therapy session its an interview)
These are just the ones I remember but yea also remember that this is a FOUNDATION interview, its by a charity so they typically want to give it to kids who can't afford a private school education otherwise (like this ties in a lot with the how many countries question, be honest about it but be humble, this is where i messed up ). Don't be intimidated they were really nice and friendly and its ok to be nervous just fake it till you make it ig

I did the Melb Foundation test last year for St Caths and made it to first round interviews. The process has you do an online test I remember and you have to be in the top 20 to get into first round. I think last year they had 300~ applicants and invited 20 to the first round. The first round consisted of a maths testing and two interviews (they ask "tell me about yourself", "how many countries have you been to?", "how do you plan to travel to school if you get in").The actual online test was for me not too difficult and it was on like a google form. It was not much difficult compared to the selective exam. They're offering a full scholarship and I remember that is was run by the older students who got the interview from the year before. It's a super good opportunity and unfortunately I can't tell you more about the second stage when they invite you and your parents for another interview bc I didn't make it that far.
Make sure you read through the whole school's website, look for all opportunities they offer that your current school doesn't but don't talk bad about your school. They'll ask what school you plan to go to next year if not to the Scholarship. Just compile a good list of academic and extracurricular achievements. And they ask of books you've read that outside of your year level.
Best of luck!
Jaskaran Singh I don't think they've been released yet as I've yet to hear anything yet did u apply?

Hi din
I did the mghs entrance exam for year 10 entry this year and its honestly alot better than the year 8 acer test. The maths content doesn't go in too deep the questions relatively easy just practice time. There is literally no breathing time with 60 ques 30 min. The edutests practice help so much because they are similar to the actual test. Try the year 9 - 11 ones don't be intimidated by the grade. Be consistent with studying, program as much vocab into your brain. If your not sure of a word during the test try breaking down to it' prefixes and roughly make an educated guess based off it's etymology, you don't need to be fluent in latin.Don't be stressed on the day and listen to every instruction given to you by the instructors. I saw some kid next to me give up during the test but don't let that slow you down. I myself am not to sure of the interview process as I am still waiting for the dates for mine (wish me luck!) but just be confident and show off your achievements with out bragging. Sign up for those curriculars cause they asked for our school reports before the offers came out, the reports are one of the key steps of getting your interview.
Best of luck to you!

for the science writing they gave us a report and we had to write a discussion essay which basically your TEEL paragraph just don't be opinionated, like neutral standing saying what you could have fixed and what can be better. They provided a list of what to include in your writing for both tests and gave generous time unlike the Year 8 Acer Selective exam. We got 5 min planning and 30 min writing. And I cannot stress this enough DO NOT FOLD THE PAPER, it comes in an A3 sheet and the machine won't scan if you fold it, the examinors aren't going to give you another... I saw kids next to me folding their sheets even after we were told not to.They provide the table and background info for the report but honestly I walked into the exam room knowing nothing about how the writing was
but its fine now as long as you have good base!
Watch those TED EDS and Wall street journals. Educate yourself, it also helps to know a ton for the interview.
My advice is know your geography and sharpen up your science. It helps a lot to keep up with the news especially with updates on medicine or science related. Like if there's something on global warming read that. If some company is experimenting with CRISPR do some research. The best way to ace the exam is to have a strong foundation of knowledge. Me personally I was cramming some science revision last minute for the JMSS exam, I was studying on the day of
but I got an interview because of my prior knowledge. The science reasoning had 30 ques for 30 min and the difficulty wasn't too bad in my opinion.
For Maths and NR, revise consistently. There were 60 ques 30 min and you don't get time to breathe. Practice speed and make sure you have a good base for maths too. The amount of questions seem intimidating but they don't go too deep, it's mostly speed. Don't put off studying and do the edutest practice tests. I ended up buying 6 because I also sat the year 10 entrance to mghs. I did a couple of the year 9 ones but they tend to be easy so try the year 10s for a challenge. If you run out try the year 11 ones too. Don't be intimidated by the grade. The NR tends to be not too hard.
Don't be nervous on the exam day the JMSS Staff are really nice and just be prepared.
I got 12:23 on the 14th is anyone else then?
Hey guys, I just got an interview offer from JMSS today and I was just wondering what to expect for the solo interviews and how big the groups are and if there are anymore future invites coming out? Do y'all have any tips for interview? My time is on Wednesday 14th of Aug 12:23 if anyone else is on at the same time? Honestly I still can't believe I got an interview.
Good luck to everyone who also got interviews!Hey Guys I got an interview!
Are there any templates for the resume?Jaskaran Singh
I reckon they'll be published in the next few weeks cause interviews are around mid to late term 3 I think?
Thats what was mentioned in the info pack from Macrob at least.JMSSaspirant
Yea but also the Macrob one asked all applicants to send in reports before the results actually came out and I don't think they'll look at reports unless the applicant got rlly good scores alsononexistent
My tutor told me that with 5 superiors you can basically expect an interview and too start practicing your responses
They should be pretty similar to a scholarship interview I reckon.nonexistent
Omgs congrats I also got 5 supsHow were your results?
