Tbh that makes alot more sense now
I don't really talk about how a chrac relates to a theme
    It's something I neglect
Thank you! I'll try practising that and including it in my writing

  • Text I'm doing is Things Fall Apart.

I was wondering if anybody can help me understand the medium and high range of the English rubric for analytical essays?
I'm not sure how to upload a picture from gallery but if anybody know pls let me know so I can share the rubric here.
From thr medium range it says things like "engages with ideas and/or values presented in the text, including discussion of characters, setting and other aspects of the text"
    For high or says
"Explains interconnected ideas and values presented in the text including discussion of characters, setting and other aspects of the text"
For that area I got low which was
" Describes characters and concerns in the text"

I wanted to know what it meant in high and medium and how I can get that? I read past essays thay scored really good marks to help me improve in that before the prac sac but I feel like the rubric will help me better

The main diffrence between medium and high was (engage-medium) and (explain-high) I really want to kneo what constitutes them?

The actual sac is early next week so any response before next week would help
    Thank you

  • There's this website/page called vce.rocks and they have alot of resources for unit 3 and 4 such as sacs or exams and textbooks

    • Thank you sooo much
Usually when I write my sentences do sound a bit broken or off so I'll have to fix that soon 😭
I do have a eng exam tmrw so I appreciate loads
When I gave one to my teacher they just underlined my grammatical mistakes
      Again thank youu (:
Also the "what better way is there to counter that than going cashless" isn't a quote i was explaining

    • Hello,

I would like someone to give me feedback for language analysis
I got the article from the 2019 VCAA Exam section C
If u see this and u can pls help
      I struggle with this 😭

Intro: Hailey Astaire, a grocery shop store manager, published a advertorial on her local newspaper titled , “A Better, faster shopping experience” in order to convince her consumers on why going cashless is the best choice. Targeting her valued customers, Astaire amiably argues the benefits of digital payment in a excited positive tone. In response to the paid advertisement , one of her customers, Sam morricone, furiously rejects Astaire point of view, stating the inconvenience it may have on others and calling out on how it only benefits the stores owner.

BP1: Astaire opens up the advertorial with a warm and welcoming tone. By saying, “As you know [we aren’t ] your local average grocery store” immediately establishes a sense of familiarity, goodwill and trust between her and her audience. She continues on with the list of favours she has done for her customers such as offering “healthy meals”, “locally sourced food”and “abolishing plastic carry bags” long before the big stores. Hailey does this in order to portray herself as someone who is customer centric and is always looking for ways to benefit them. As a result her readers feel that their needs are prioritised and therefore they are more inclined to look at her in a favourable manner.A mutual trust, affinity and friendship is developed between her and her customers. This is further demonstrated in the image. There is a woman wearing a simple t-shirt, white apron and a wide smile on her face this is juxtaposed to the man in more formal clothing. It is an attempt to paint her as unembellished and trustworthy to the readers. The simplicity of her clothing is orchestrated to make her seem friendly. In addition, the shelves are full with food to display how she never lets her customers own. It gives a warm and homely vibe that invites comfort and trust on the customers behalf.

BP2: Astaire then begins to give reasons on why paying through cash is cumbersome towards her customers through listing the disadvantages of it. The writer keeps on repeating the phrase, “you won’t ever..” then following it up with a downside of paying with cash. Astaire targets her audience's everyday troubles when paying with cash ensuring them that if they switch, they won’t ever have to face such a inconvenience ever again. Furthermore, her use of “essential food supplies” sends the message that the only way to get basic necessities quickly and efficiently is through card. The phrase at the end of paragraph two “Welcome to the twenty-first century” is an appeal to being modern. It portrays her as innovative and that she is moving forward and so should her consumers if they don’t want to be left behind.

BP3: Astaire tone becomes more academic and professional as she begins to talk about cashless payment within a wider economic context while maintaining her customer centric image. She uses “embraced” a word with positive connotations to describe how many Australians are already in acceptance and support of the digital economy. In addition, by citing Phillip Lowe along with her description of herself as a “leader” puts forth a image of her and her store being proactive and progressive in its operations and that her audience should follow in her steps. At the same time whist modernising the store she is still looking out in the best interests of the community. She mentions the area has seen a rise in pickpocketing and what better way is there to counter that than going cashless. Astaire builds up strong communal values.

BP4: Towards the end the writer begins to take a more passive aggressive approach by acknowledging the customers worries but at the same time putting pressure on them to switch. By acknowledging her opposition it displays that she isn’t tone-deaf to problems in her community once again portraying her as thoughtful. Astaire diction of “minority”puts unspoken pressure on the group of people who don’t use cashless payments, it implies that they should catch up and switch . Her last line in the paragraph where she says “[we will] still accept cash to give people time to adjust” again puts a heavy burden on the people within that minority group. It conveys the idea that they are out of touch and antiquated. After all if everyone else is doing it, why can’t they? Hailey appeals to the audience’s sense of modernisation and fear of being left out

BP5: Sam Morricone’s comments in the community voice angrily reject Hailey’s proposal to switch to cashless payments. The use of frustrated, colloquial language-“Who is she kidding?- accuses Astaire of disrespecting her customers and taking them for fools thinking they have no idea of the hidden intent behind the advertorial which is commercial motivation. The illustration of the card reader being out of “ERROR” evokes a sense of skepticism among readers, that this method of paying isn’t as reliable as they previously thought so in Hailey’s passage. By including the story of his grandmother Sam paints Astaire as being inconsiderate it sharply contrasts her dismissal of such concerns and reinforces his argument that cash is extremely important in the community especially towards elders who rely on it heavily.

      Anything is appreciated
      Thank you đŸȘŒđŸ™
