I know that some people deliberately switch to less competitive schools shortly before the test as it makes it much easier for them to get in than at their normal school. That might have been the case with your classmate.
2022 Victorian Selective Entry Test Results

well, on https://selectivehighschools.education/faq/ it said:
How does the selection process work?
A centralised selection process is used whereby every applicant must sit the entry examination. While each school fills 85% of its Year 9 enrolment based on a student’s performance in the exam, there are a range of variables that may affect final offers each year. These include:Variable entry score from year to year depending on the demand for places at the school and the scores achieved by those students who have listed the school as their first preference.
Only a maximum of 4% of students in Year 8 from any one school can be accepted into a selective entry high school. Students currently enrolled in an interstate or overseas school are treated as discrete school cohorts, with an average Year 8 enrolment figure used to determine the number of places available.
Up to 10% of enrolments are filled through the Equity Consideration category.
Up to 5% of the enrolment will be filled through the Principal’s Discretion category.
And I also saw in the information pack for 2023 on page 10:
6.2 Principal’s discretion category
The Principal of each Selective Entry High School has the authority to offer up to 5% of places
under the principal’s discretion category, as long as this does not exceed the Year 8 quota of
students from any single school.
Principals from each Selective Entry High School identify from the examination results those
students who they wish to invite to submit an application under the principal’s discretion category.
These applications, including the due dates for submission, are handled by the individual schools.
An invitation to submit an application for a principal’s discretion category is not an offer of a place
at the school. The principals shortlist and interview students from the applications received, and
make offers directly to students.
If a student accepts an offer at a Selective Entry High School and receives an offer to apply for
principal’s discretion for a higher preference school, the student can retain the initial offer while the
principal’s discretion process is undertaken.
5% of 52 is 2.6, so 2 or 3 people could be able to get in through PD, though i'm pretty sure the PD offers ended on Oct 7 for Mac.Rob.
icantthinkofname This is 5% of total enrollment for each selective school, not the source school which is 4% for this year.
salma_7052 PD does apply this rule as explained in p9 of the Info Pack.
did you guys know PD applicants can get second round offers? That's what happened to me. I was offered Nossal and MHS PD but then received a second round offer soo yeah

Cheesecake7 don't worry, there's still the rest of the day and the last 2 rounds. I'm checking my inbox from time to time as well.
Hi all,
Just wanted to ask: What is the necessary prerequisite knowledge for Nossal’s intermediate Japanese class? Is there anything in particular they expect us to know?
- Edited
Does anyone know when the next dates for the rounds are? If so when, and where can I find this information? Furthermore, does anyone know if all of Nossal's spots are taken, and if not, will we be notified if it is?
Thanks.
ILikeBooks Only the dates for the first 3 rounds were told. They just briefly mentioned that there were going to be 5 rounds.
people who got into mhs, is anyone doing airforce cadets?
Are all of nossals places taken?
rekt_AN Are you planning on doing it? If you do, you'll gain leadership skills, field skills, aviation skills and will be able to experience military life. I'd highly recommend it
somebody8442 yeah, i'm doing it
Okay, so my friend and I are somewhat confused. Despite having decent test scores, he was not accepted to Nossal. He believes that the selective entry school may have mistakenly issued a rejection email for one intended to be an acceptance. I doubt it because it is a really professional process, and I don't believe they would make such an error, but is it really possible for a selective school to send the incorrect email?
