how many late offers will they give? approximately how many?

    katie
I think there are 5 rounds this year and 2 have already happened. The other 3 rounds will be very small though, it's only for people who rejected second round offers and there weren't many second round offers. There will probably only be a few students that get these offers.

Ommahp approximately how many people tho? 10? or even less?

        katie
There's no way to determine but I would say 5-10 for the 3rd round and probably only 2 or 3 for the next rounds. These are just guesses though.

Honestly, the only way for you to get in this year is if someone from your school declines an offer to a selective school. That way there's one spot open for someone from your school to receive an offer from a selective school but you'll also be competing against the next people on the list for offers. I really hope you do get in, you seem very passionate and determined to get in and you're obviously incredibly smart considering your results.

Ommahp thank you. the funny thing is- I had no training at all for this exam because I did not think too much about it. It was hard and I am still very surprised by the results I received!

by the way, which school did you get into?

katie Wow, congrats! Did your parents make you do it then? I know loads of people who only did it cause of pressure from family and friends.

I got into Nossal High School with not that great scores honestly, I only got 1 superior but I didn't get any averages. I was surprised I got in at all but very happy.

It's just a guess but I'd assume it would be around those numbers for the third round. Like most people would accept their offers and roughly 200 people get first round offers. I think only about 30 people would get second round offers, especially for Macrob and Melbourne High. Nossal and Suzanne Cory might be different since most people put Macrob and Melborune High as their first preference.

Nutella thank you! no, I wanted to do it myself. It's because I thought this school I am currently in was too easy for me, so I decided to try out for it. But then I forgot about it over time and I didn't realise you needed to practise for the exam lol

Ommahp that's amazing, congrats!! I wanted to get into Nossal too. good job 😄

                      katie
Considering your scores it doesn't look like you needed to practise at all.

Is Principal's Discretion not for those who missed a place because of the 4% rule?
From mhs website: 'At Melbourne High School 15 places are reserved for entry via the Principal’s Discretionary Category. Applicants who missed a place because of the 4% rule will be invited by the School to apply for one of these places. The Principal’s Discretionary Category can only be applied when the quota from any one source school has not been reached.'

Now that's just confusing to me. The part that says 'the Principal's Discretionary Category can only be applied when the quota from any one source school has not been reached' means that PD only applies for students from a school that hasn't reached the 4% mark, but that completely contradicts their previous statement.

Ommahp Maybe the quota is 5%? I saw something in the Selective exam handbook thing and it said that for PD, it's 5% not 4.

In Info Pack 2023 (page 9) it is clearly stated that, if 4% from a school is filled up..there will be no PD offer...

An illustrative example of the quota process is offered below. At ABC High School, the maximum

number of standard offers that can be made is 4 based on 100 students enrolled at Year 8. The
Principal Discretion Category cannot be used as the Year 8 quota for this school has been
reached. However, offers can be made under the Equity Consideration category to eligible
students as this category is not subject to the quota policy.

IZM Correct. Lots of mis-information in many previous posts. My advice is to always refer to the Information Pack by DET for the current year as it does change. This year it is 4% (in the last few years it was 5%, many years ago it was 3%). Page 9 of the Info Pack has clear information about this rule.

My understanding is the PD process has been completed for most schools with school Welcome Day/Info Evening for new students happening this week. So only a couple of late offer rounds for this year.

katie damn my friend got in mhs with 3 sups 2 highs

                              Train ur friend is lucky..

2 ppl got in from my class, and one of them is a new student last yr. if he didn't come, i wouldve gotten in. like why would you come to my school if you were gonna leave anyways!?!? I will never stop hating him for stealing my spot.
