Hi everyone! next year I am planning to undertake the Macrob and JMSS year 11 admission test.
I need to know how to prepare for the test and the interview...
I am going to be doing vce biology units 1 and 2 next year and I am thinking of doing debating but I feel like it will be too much to handle. can you please give me some advice on how to prepare for the test?
SELECTIVE SCHOOL FOR YR 11
Additional leadership includes: stem committee/captain and src as well as a reading ambassador - do you think it's enough?
i don't think that macrob offer yr11 entry but jmss there is practice test you can buy on the edu portal where you buy the tests to practise and also you would need to submitt a cv if you pass the test and you will do a test on the site then the interview
I was also wondering if u guys could tell me anything abt the material on the quantitative and maths test. I have a ton of pressure and expectations from other ppl to pass this exam but i cant seem to find the topics i should work on. Also if u can share any writing, verbal reasoning or reading comprehension tips and question types that would be great. i hope someone replies soon as im quite stressed and on a tight time frame. Ty
Macrob exam. If u’ve done yr 9 it would be more helpful otherwise can u plz give me some advice on the test and the material i should learn when preparing for the test. Thx

Ok, so I did try out for the selective school exam for year 9, but did not get in... I could however tell you what to prepare for based on my experience.
Personally, I did attend a tutor and that enabled access to numerous resources and practice tests. Nevertheless, there are many resources on some ATAR notes discussions and selective school sites - so use these and practice under a time limit of 30 minutes.
This year the students did both narrative and persuasive pieces for writing (as per my belief) so search up random prompts and write one every week! - It's best to do it a lot of times - in order to store ideas in your head and become familiar with the process/structure.
For the other tests, all I can say is to complete practice exams!!! here's a link: https://www.oztests.com.au/vic-sel-free-resources/
Maths - Year 8/9 fundamentals and basic year 10 level knowledge
Reading Comprehension - It's like an advanced Reading PAT test so read lots!
Verbal - My tuition teacher told me to read the dictionary which I actually did but didn't help too much so maybe revise over year 9 spelling lists and familiarise yourself with prefixes/suffixes.
Numerical - I can't say much for this one so it is best to just do the practice tests - but here's a tip; don't always try to guess an answer and instead opt to seek out a pattern in certain questions
there are a lot of YT videos that also go into depth.
Finally, do not stress about the amount of coverage you are supposed to have - definitely prep but take it easy and plan wisely. Use the upcoming December holidays to study well!
All the best.
Feel free to ask any questions, I'll try my best to answer as an ex-exam taker lol!
Oh my god ty so much. U have no idea how stressed i was and u basically just saved me tons of time researching .
