Billzene Thanks for your reply, I am not 100% certain on my majors yet. I had failed CHM1011 with 41. I am probably looking to do teaching so something like Math and science will be most likely.

Currently enrolled myself in ATS1261,ATS1280,ATS2769 and ATS1340 for summer. I will see how I go from there...

ZAZ I'm going to do teaching as well! If you're doing MTH1020 next semester I might actually see you around. My teaching areas will definitely be chem and maths, I'm just unsure about whether to do an extended major in chem + minor in maths or a major in chem + major in maths at the moment

Billzene I done MTH1020,I might see you when we both do MTH1030 then, other than Math I am currently thinking of doing psychology and neuroscience units, that might be worth some self help. My teaching methods will be Maths and something, not sure yet, could be language or linguistics also...

ZAZ psych units aren’t very good for WAM maintenance since they’re marked on a bell curve. 2nd year neuro (PHY2011) is well known as a WAM booster, but 3rd year neuro units definitely aren’t

Billzene Thanks for the information!I will keep that in mind. It's good getting to know you, Bill maybe we can have actual meet up that will be amazing.

Today I asked my dad and he promised me that this time next year I can go back China to visit! Didn't get a chance for 10 years I'm at Australia. I am afraid this is too good to be true!

So I submitted an Application to live on-campus, really hoping that I could get in and have a better crack at my units.

When wes is back I gotta drop 2 of my units, what do you think I should drop? Not quite sure needed some advice!

I am thinking of physiology,Math, as majors, psychology as extended major and linguistics as a minor.

          PHY major = 8 units

          MTH major = 8 units

Psych extended major = 10 units

          Linguistic minor = 4 units

Core scientific communication unit + random level 1 sci elective since you already did maths = 2 units

Total = 32 units, checks out for a double degree

However, you’ll end up with 18 units of sci and 14 units of arts, shouldn’t you have 16 units for each component?

Billzene This was due to a couple Arts units in the past.I will do ATS3009, ATS1904.PSY10,LING8,PHY8 MTH8.

ZAZ Ah OK, I’m even more confused about your course progression, have you tried filling in the course advice request form? They’ll know how to sort out course progression than anyone on ATAR Notes can

Billzene Sorry for the late reply, I stayed in the Hospital for 2 days, but all good now.

Yes I filled the form before. My course progression is a bit weird, I no longer have to do SCI2010/2015 or the new first year unit.

                4 days later

I discontinued from units other than ATS1340. I am going to have to apply for remission of debt and withdrawn incomplete later as I passed census date already. I am hoping to do better emotionally and physically this summer.

                4 days later

I have withdrawn myself from all my units for the summer. I think maybe I am not emotional fit for getting into study yet. So for the summer I will focus more on self-recovering side of things and get ready for 2023.

I have been deciding on my majors for Science/Arts for a while, I was thinking of going into majoring in Computational Science and have a major in Mathematics by vit standard which is 6 units of Mathematics. I will do an extended major in Psychology with a minor in Japanese. The subjects I plan to teach are Mathematics and EAL after Masters.

I have just decided on my units for 2023, they are:
                SEMESTER 1
                ATS1141 Japanese 1
                FIT1045 Introduction to programming
MAT1830 Discrete mathematics for computer science
MTH2132 The nature and beauty of mathematics

                SEMESTER 2
                ATS1142 Japanese 2
ATS3946 Asian languages advanced: Transnational intersections
                FIT1008 Introduction to computer science
                PSY1022 Psychology 1B

For the summer, I was thinking of doing some calligraphy everyday and pre study for FIT units because I don't have any prior knowledge.

Tomorrow I have decided to see a psychologist again, after abondoning for around a year.

This journal will mostly be composed of my recovery journey, I am hoping this isn't too sensitive here.

ZAZ Interesting, so which 2 level 3 maths units are you considering for your VIT maths major? Also it’s completely fine to talk about mental health, although we may deny it, everyone who has been through uni is traumatised for quite a while, so everyone’s in the same boat.

                  • ZAZ replied to this.

Billzene I am thinking of MTH3170 Network Mathematics and MTH3140 Real Analysis at the moment. It seems that when people talk about uni Mathematics, real analysis comes to mind, so it seems to be something important that's inevitable.

I have entered preferences into allocate. It seems that we don't have to enter 6 options as before. However, for me other than the first two preferences there appears to have clashes. If I get my first preferences I have no Monday classes but if I get my second preference for that Japanese Tute I will have to go to uni on Mondays just for 1 class.

Mental health wise, I have just seen my psychologist and psychiatrist this week. Things appear to be a little bit better than before after going through the ambulance incident earlier but not so much. It's just that I am more engaged because I feel guilty for seeing the ambulance as an important medical resource gone wasted on me, at the same time other people may need it more and eager to survive.

ZAZ Real analysis is from what I heard from the Monash maths discord the easiest level 3 unit. However, the opposite is true for networks, it’s apparently the hardest. They told me point blank that MTH3170 is nothing like the networks module in veggie maths (VCE Further), it’s a very pure maths sort of unit

Billzene I might have to see how I go with that. I am recovering and getting ready for uni. So far in uni studies, I have not completed one semester with all passes which is quite unpleasant when it comes around time looking for work. I am hoping to pass my units for 2023,I have heard that journaling might help a bit with life matters and I will see how I go from there.

ZAZ Great to hear you're getting better. Journalling is definitely a good idea to vent and reflect on both highs and lows, just remember that you don't have to share anything you're not comfortable with. Have you reducing your workload by part timing or doing 3 units a semester? It gives you more time to focus on each of your subjects

Billzene Hi Bill, I have underloaded in the majority of my semesters just to avoid intermission, but my mental health probably needed a break away from all the studies related stuff. So I have done badly regardless and eventually had to take intermission anyway. I'm at the peak of all times since my diagnoses, but still a bit nervous and don't know how long this is going to last. Right now I wish uni start sooner so that it will not gone 'wasted'. At the very least, I am hoping that I will not start uni at one of the lowest points. I think now I started to accept that I will be mediocre and that's fine with me.
