Was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to write good assignments!
For context, my class had our teacher missing as she was sick (for the term) and we had a relief teacher. Unfortunately that relief teacher was no good and was replaced by another teacher. This was all over the span of 5 weeks, also during assignment time. For the end of year block exam I received an A+ for methods but a C for the assignment. I understood the topic inside out and am devastated at the result I got. If anyone has any foundational tips and ways to improve math assignment writing, please share?
Note: my school did not weigh my assignment as it should have been (50%) as we had no real math teacher, so they were nice enough to make it 25% of my mark so I should still be on an A. However I am still frustrated with the result.

What part(s) of assignments are you having trouble with? Is it to do with the maths itself or the communication/presentation?

I think it’s my presentation, english has never been my best subject so I believe that has been a factor to the bad assignment writing. The application of math is the easy part, it is writing out the assignment and what to put where is not sticking with me.

      Hey Patty,

I’ve seen this issue quite a bit with PSMTs when I tutor students as well - the PSMT ISMG is quite vague. Because it seems you’re pretty good with the maths stuff, here are a few suggestions/tips for the PSMT:

      • Write out/explain every single mathematical operation step-by-step. Then you can delete/cut out the unnecessary steps if you are over.
      • Ensure you incorporate a concept that is beyond your syllabus (even if it’s not required by the ISMG). I usually use the “beyond the syllabus” concept as a check method for my calculations. This is a good way because it’s subtle, makes it a point for evaluation and creates a good impression.
      • Have a well thought out and comprehensive structure: Introduction (with a few subheadings), your models, evaluation and conclusion. The subheadings are quite flexible but ensure it aligns with the ISMG. Make it obvious you did everything that the ISMG asks for.

Hope that helps! These are just a few suggestions that I’ve thought of so far so feel free to ask any more questions.

        thank you PhytoPlankton
Do you know if there are any structure sheets for qcaa math assignment, my school doesn't provide many good ones that don't work for me. I followed the structure and marking guide of the qcaa unit 1 high level response to ensure I do well but that didn't work.
I'm sorry if I ask too much, I am really sad with this result because I thought I was going to do far better.
