Ommahp Lol I actually know another current Y9 Nossal kid who's brother went to JMSS and hated it, I think the teaching style is a bit weird there and since everyone is a bit pressured into following the science route, it's not always the best option. I also know ex-teachers from there who didn't like it too, obviously do what you want though 🙂

Yeah I feel like since I'm happy with where I am at Nossal and have got my VCE subjects already figured out then its probably better to stay, and I feel like more people have had better experiences at Nossal than at JMSS.

    Heyyy,
Has anyone got a offer or interview call from JMSS yet?

John Monash Science School caters to students who enjoy science whether that be in technology, physics or any other field. If you aren't content about going into science then it probably isn't going to be the right place for you. I've heard of people saying they didn't like the school because it's heavily science based (which is very dumb because it literally is a school focused on educating students about science fields). The teachers there as well assume the students have a passion for the sciences so for people who don't want to, it isn't a suitable school. All I'm trying to say is that even though it is a selective school, the students that will benefit most from going there and actually enjoying the learning environment is students that actually enjoy science.

I mean there are many students that sit the entrance exam just for the sake that it is a selective school but in the long run, if you don't plan on actually pursuing it, it will be worthless.

anyone got offer for JMSS year 10 entry ?

        DJC
I heard that interviews are still being held for people who were sick or something on the original date. JMSS said that the results will come out before September 15th but they usually come out earlier so maybe in 1-2 weeks.

Results came out like half an hour ago. I was able to get an offer, did anyone else get one?

Congratulations everyone who received the offer. Can someone who received the offer guide me how the interview process works and what made you stand out in the crowd? My son is applying for next year and just wondering if I should start doing something now.

ind191 For the interview process, I believe that you should be yourself. By that I don’t mean to be completely relaxed. Some nervousness is fine. However, you should show that you have a true passion for science through your answers. During the group activities, it is recommended that you listen actively to your group members, ask questions and try to be to inclusive. This year, my group and I had to use different materials to create a path for the ball to reach the other side. To stand out in these types of activities, you should be optimistic even if the ball didn’t reach the other side. This shows that you have a growth mindset, which is a key factor in the selection process from what I have heard. In group activities, you should take initiative. But, do not speak over anyone else and make sure everyone feels heard. In the actual interview, the interviewer asked me about extracurriculars, career plans, grades and how I spend my weekends. It is important that you don’t show off and give realistic answers. For example, don’t say “I study all day during the weekend.” Instead, you should seem like you have a life outside of school. For career plans, it is recommended that it’s science related. We also had to submit a resume. The interviewer will look at your resume while interviewing you and will ask questions about your resume. Make sure you are prepared. Try include everything in your resume, even if it isn’t science related. The interviewer will also ask you about any current science related issue that you’re interested in, your favourite scientist and why you like them. Make sure you are well prepared for this. The interviewer will ask why you want to join John Monash. For this question, it’s extremely important that you don’t talk bad about the school your going to right now. Instead, you could say “Although, my current school has an excellent learning environment, I think John Monash will challenge me and help me pursue my passions for science.” I didn’t do any prior coaching for the entrance test, but I did have Henderson’s interview coaching session and advice from a year 10 friend. Don’t take my advice too strong, because you should be yourself!
