Hi aved !
First of all, welcome to JMSS!
Methods
Methods SACs at JMSS are notoriously tricky, although when I completed methods in 2022, SAC 1 was so hard the teacher was banned from writing entire SACs ever again (average SAC score was 30-40%). Needless to say, the average is higher this year but usually cannot be compared to other schools because the maths dept has the challenging job of ranking all students (and JMSS consistently has a very strong maths cohort). SAC scores for methods at JMSS do get scaled pretty well, so even if you seem to do horribly in terms of original grade, it'll come out nicer on your VCE.
Subject Requirements
In year 12, the school will require you to complete five unit 3&4 courses (equating to 10 units). In year 11, the school will allow you to do 12 units, whether that is six unit 1&2 courses, meaning you drop one into year 12, or you complete five unit 1&2 courses with an accelerated 3&4 course. If you do the latter, you will have completed one 3&4 subject with five to go in the last year, meaning six total in your VCE.
If you end up accelerating in two subjects in year 11 (meaning four 1&2 courses and two 3&4 courses), you will be allowed an exception to doing five subjects in year 12 and will instead do four 3&4 courses for your final year, still totalling six total in your VCE.
Do note that JMSS requires you to complete two science subjects (biology 1&2, chemistry 1&2 or physics 1&2) by the end of year 11, although you may choose to drop one or both for your final year. You are also required to complete a maths (of methods 1&2 or spesh 1&2) by the end of year 11. And of course, your compulsory English (of mainstream, literature or lang). That will usually leave two breadth subjects of choice in year 11.
Humanities
I couldn't tell you much about hums, except that we don't offer everything, and spots are limited as usually only one teacher in the school can teach that specific subject. Do see our handbook for more details on the JMSS website.
Best of luck, and feel free to ask any other questions!!
Cheers,
Jono
