hi guys, I’ve been working on my jmss science communication essay and I’m kinda stressing about whether it’s actually any good 😅. If anyone’s up for having a quick read and maybe giving it a grade or some feedback, that’d seriously help calm my nerves. The topic was: "Write about the effect of greenhouse gases on climate change" If anyone wants the link to the infographic please say so.
Climate change is a phenomenon caused by trapped greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere due to the excess production of these gases. This issue is extremely important as it affects every living organism on planet earth. However, if no actions are taken soon, this issue's effects will grow to detrimental measures.
Greenhouse gases are gases which trap heat from the sun for the earth. Excess amounts of these gases encourage excess trapping, which then increase the earth's temperature. The ocean of planet earth is also a very big contributor in absorbing greenhouse gases due to the fact that they absorb 90% of the world's excess heat. The atmosphere of planet earth contains different amounts of differing gases, such as helium, oxygen and carbon dioxide. In recent years, the atmospheric carbon dioxide level has been the highest in almost 2 million years, illustrating the growing contribution of human activities on environmental issues.
There are different sources for the increase of greenhouse gases such as, burning fossil fuels, deforestation, agriculture, and industrial processes. The burning of non-renewable fuels such as fossil ones are the most significant contributors for greenhouse gas' increase. Deforestation is also a very big contributor, as the cutting of trees works as an even deadlier catalyst for climate change. Trees and plants have the ability to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, and when they are cut down, they release even more carbon dioxide into the air. Industrial processes, such as the production of chemicals and concrete release fluorinated gases, which are an even stronger form of greenhouse gases.
However, preventative measures such as ensuring wildlife reserves and protected habitats to limit deforestation, the reduction of the usage of non-renewable resources such as coal and petrol, and imposing limitations on the production of these man-made chemicals can and are being used around the world to limit the spread of it's effects.
Further solutions to limit the effects of greenhouse gases include moving away from fossil fuels by using renewable resources such as water, sunlight, wind, and biofuel to lower human dependence on them, and further investing in solutions to better help equip us for the fight against climate change should be adopted.
thanks so much!
