Just wondering what the scaling for different VCE Subjects are when going towards your ATAR and which ones are the easiest but best in terms of scoring (yk just to start planning ahead)

    i_need_mental_asylum the BIGGEST thing i am going to emphasise here is do NOT choose subjects based on scaling. firstly, it changes a tiny bit every year, but the most important thing is that you’re choosing subjects you enjoy, otherwise you’re going to be unwilling to study them. i do only 1 higher scaling subject and all my other 4 scale down. it doesn’t matter because i enjoy all of them.

    scaling report is there but please please please don’t let it influence your subject selection heavily, because if you can get a high aggregate (see aggregate table) with lower scaling subjects because you’re doing well in them, you’re a bit safer than doing higher scaling subjects which you may not perform as well in.

        French will always scale up by roughly 10. If you get a 20, it will go up to 30, a 25 will give you 36, etc, according to last year's scaling report. I chose French in Year 12, partly because of this, but also because it was something I enjoyed, and was good at, though I did Year 12 in 2020, where the study design was changed, and I ultimately gave up on school at the end. I still enjoyed this subject and Drama for the chance to be creative. If I wanted to say or do something that makes the assessors laugh, I can, which is why I liked it so much. I had a chance to broaden my horizons, gain new perspectives of the world, and my own language too. My aggregate study score was 100 across all the subjects, if I chose some subject that didn't scale at all instead of French, my combined study score might have been in the 90s, giving me an ATAR in the high 40s, instead of low 50s. Even if you don't get a great ATAR, the study score bonus gives you a little boost. And it didn't matter in the end, because my English score of 18 was too low to use at any university, so I waited two years until my ATAR was obsolete, then I went to uni

          Different schools have different testing, but I believe there is one oral SAC in Year 12, but there will definitely be an oral exam at the end of the year. The exam is 15 minutes long, and split into two sections. The first part is general conversation, where assessors will ask you questions relating to family, friends, hobbies, plans after graduation, etc. You'll mostly need to focus on tenses and vocabulary overall. The second part is about a specific subject, usually a political topic in France. Mine was Islamophobia across the country, and how corrupt politicians target them as the source of problems. I got a C for it, which I was happy with, because oral wasn't my strong suit. Nailed the pronunciation though, I remember being pretty happy with it

              Stuff that you would be able to have a conversation with in France. I think the other stuff was climate change, racism, taxes, elections, etc. You'll learn about them in class, what vocabulary to use, maybe a script you can roughly follow too. The teachers will give you plenty of time for research and all that
