Please reply with anything you thought was cool that you learned/found out! It can be about absolutely anything!

Coolest thing I learnt recently is that it’s more energy efficient to reverse into a carpark when parking, because if you need to reverse out when you leave with a cold engine it uses “20 to 25 times more petrol” according to an article on a random website. I don't know much about cars and had never realised there was a difference!

apparently the moon is 1/400th the size of the sun whilst also being 1/400th the distance away from earth compared to the sun's distance from earth therefore they both appear roughly the same size

    According to various recent statistics:

    • the average Australian full time worker is earning a salary of ~$91,000/ year (pre-tax)
    • the average female Australian is getting pregnant with their first child first (29.6yo, as of 2020), married second (30.6yo, as of 2021*) and buying their first property third (34yo, as of 2021).

*As per average age of marriage, but average age of marriage of same-sex couple differs.

Note 1: These are just statistics I discovered. Any gender roles assumed are from the data these statistics were derived from.
Note 2: Averages also are not the most accurate form of statistic, so do not show the full picture, but medians were not always calculated.

Some cool random facts I've recently found out

    1. That Cheesecake is technically not a cake, it's also not a pie, it's actually a tart.
    2. GIF is pronounced as 'JIF' and not 'GIF'.
    3. Bats save US $1 Billion in crop damages by eating insects, one bat can eat up to 6,000-8,000 insects per day. If Bats disappear insect population will grow enormously, leading to crop failure, human illness and economic damage.

I found this super cool when i learnt yesterday! Genericide is when a trademarked brand becomes too widely used by the population to refer to the generic object and so they lose the trademark. So popular brands don't want their name to become too widely used. According to a website Thermos, Teflon, Aspirin, Zipper, Pilates, Escalator, and Cellophane all used to be trademarked brand names that were lost because they became too popular.

As of yesterday, I had no idea, and I think it's awesome. When a trademarked brand gets commonly used as a synonym for the generic item, the phenomenon known as "genericide" occurs. Therefore, well-known companies want to prevent their brand name from becoming genericized. A website claims that the trademarks for Thermos, Teflon, aspirin, zippers, pilates, escalators, and cellophane were abandoned since the products had become so ubiquitous.

1 in 9 Australians has shoplifted from supermarkets when using the self serve checkouts over the past year, likely due to the rising cost of living. (Disclaimer: I got this statistic from 9 news so no idea how accurate it is)

I found it fascinating that reversing into a parking space is more fuel-efficient, using significantly less petrol when leaving. Speaking of efficiency, if you're looking for a thrilling experience, try the Snow Rider 3D game! It combines fun and strategy, just like smart parking!
