I don't want to say it's impossible for them to accidentally send a rejection letter but it's extremely unlikely. The emails are most likely checked many times and rejection and acceptance letters are sent out at different times so they can't accidentally be swapped in and out. Unless your friend had extremely high scores like 4-5 superiors, then I doubt he was accidentally sent a rejection email. Like there was someone that didn't get in despite them having 4 superiors and 1 high average so your friend was probably actually rejected.

Yea, that's what I thought.

The reason he thought this was because someone with lower scores got accepted but he didn't. They are in the same class as him.

If the other student got into Nossal and has lower scores than the friend, I think your friend should write to question. But if the other student got accepted into Melbourne High, then this might sounds right because Nossal only accepts 200 students whereas Melbourne High accepts 300, its more competitive to get into Nossal I am afraid. Hope this helps.

Isn't Nossal co-ed? If the person who got lower scores than him was a girl, maybe that would play a factor as well?

        Book
        Nutella
Yeah gender could play a role for Nossal because they usually try to make the amount of boys and girls even. And also if the friend is under Equity Consideration or they rank higher than him in class. If they're male, not under Equity Consideration and rank lower than him then I really have no idea why he didn't get in but his friend did.

        Nutella

Yes the gender plays a part too. For example JMSS such a great school, have one of the hardest selection process, will accept 100 girls and 100 boys, because its a math, science and technology specialist school I believe more boys are being rejected (more interest from this gender). The boys have to compete more.

        Christy
Absolutely not. If you were to receive a place, the school is not allowed to use any kind of bias under any circumstances to preclude sending you an invitation, especially when your email involved simply asking a question.

Hello everyone, I just wanna ask what prior knowledge is necessary for intermediate French at Nossal?

        5 days later

hopeful this has happened to me as well, but I think I know why. My friend had two superiors and got in, I got 3 and didn't but was instead offered PD, then a second round offer (I'm talking about mhs). I asked around about it and came to a conclusion that because I did an alternative exam date (I had caught covid on the main exam) the administrators of the exam maybe decided to check if I wasn't faking covid jsut to get 3 more weeks of studying. Needless to say, once I submitted the PD papers, I received an offer 2 days later. Maybe this could help but I honestly dunno.

I just read this in the website "The required knowledge in any section will not exceed that found in the Year 8 curriculum". This is for my daughter who will start Year 7 this year in GWSC. Does this mean my daughter need to prepare materials from Year 8 or Year 9?

IZM Hi Wanted to check, if your daughter went to any tuition. I am considering a good one but cannot decide for my daughter too. She is in GWSC in Glen Waverly from this year.

GWSC Hi, Yes she went to James an & College (Glen Waverly Branch)... Now my younger one who is in year 7 this year, also going...she is in Dandenong High.

Hello I'm sitting the select entry school exam this year for entry in 2024. Do you think I should put Nossal or Macrob as my first preference, (macrob and melbourne high seem like more popular options at my school and there are less places at nossal.)? Also I attend a very very very competitive school, do you think equity consideration will help me? Thank you.

I am going for the selective entry exam this year and I would like to ask something. I have been browsing around on the ATAR NOTES Selective School Admission Test Server and have commonly seen this phrase "Keep it simple." Should I really keep my written expression simple? One of the people gave a really bad essay idea to show that even that essay if kept simple would get you a good high percentile in the test, is this true? Some other guy said to make your essay sound deep even if it isn't. So I am conflitcted as to whether to keep my story simple and boring which could be a bad decision or make it sound deep which also... could be a bad decision. An experienced person please give me your thoughts!

I just sat the test on 14th July for the year 11 exam. Don't have great tips but here you go:

              • Remember to sleep well before the exam day and DON'T study a couple of days before. I did it, and trust me, it really helps.
              • On exam day, just pretend like you are solving a normal worksheet at home, I'm not too sure if this will work for you, but it did for me.
              • After you complete 10 questions, mark them on your answer sheet. (The answer sheet is separate) otherwise, you might leave yourself with 1 min at the end to do it for 60 questions.
              • For the creative writing bit, make sure you use at least one of the quotes/images provided, I nearly forgot. It's in the instructions, but you don't have time to read that!
              • For the reading comprehension part, read the question first, then the options, and then the text. It wastes a lot of time if you read the text first.
              • You WILL have to guess LOTS of questions, so make sure you make an educated guess. When you need to blindly guess (trust me you will have to due to time constrain) choose 'c' or the most recurring letter. Many people say it works. It's better than randomly selecting your answers.
              • Try to come a bit early to your examination place. Get used to the environment. You'll be less nervous, and the less nervous you are, the better.
              • To be honest, while you are waiting for the exam to start, everyone looks so smart. That can get a bit pressuring, but remember, they think the same of you. So you are really smart too πŸ™‚

Give it your best shot. Have a good night's sleep, breakfast, exercise, skincare, or anything that you find relaxing. I hope you do amazing!

              Hope this helps a bit

Hi does anyone have any practice tests that will help for the exam, because the ones online are really easy, and it does not really help me learn anything
