Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say I really appreciate all of the tips so far,
I am also studying to try get into JMSS (2025) and I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with JAC tutoring as In school (current year 9 curriculum) I am able to achieve much better grades compared to the JAC practise tests (only around 40-60%) which Is around the average however the top marks are around 80-100 so it's definitely started to stress me out as a lot of the content has not been taught in school.
Adding on to that I am finding the maths on the JAC practise tests insanely difficult to the point I'm unable to complete them, when I am able to achieve better grades at school, olympiads or math competitions.
If anyone has some advice on what I should do that would be greatly appreciated! (sorry that sounds really broad and confusing but I'm starting to get stressed out as the examination date gets nearer.)

To be completely honest I did some light studying for only around a month and I am only just starting my "hardcore" study now/recently. I'm certainly becoming stressed out as I want to attend but I'm just revising over practice tests from tutoring and compiling my notes around year 9 science curriculum topics, I'm also going to be doing numerous timed practice scientific essays/reports with the aid of chat gpt to give some feedback.
That's just a quick snapshot of what I'm doing but at the end of the day just try your best and give it your all, one test won't determine your entire future. Hoping we all get in for 2025!
eee I only study for around 1 hour per day, otherwise, I find myself getting distracted quickly and unable to focus, just find the study method that works best for you and stick to it. (I also used chat gpt to generate a study schedule for 30 days revolving around year 9 science/math topics. I'd recommend if you feel overwhelmed by the amount of content you need to learn in such a small period of time.
eee Thanks for your help. It gives me Little hope but by any chance do you have free resources that you are willing to share? And what is the structure for the essay and what are you meant to do for scientific multiple choice.

Unfortunately sharing resources from my tutoring centre could potentially result in me getting In trouble as I believe it is against the rules (so sorryyy) your best friend (one of my favourite resources) will be a good word doc and chat gpt, ask it questions relating to the year 9 curriculum breaking down explanations, examples and even quiz questions to test your knowledge. GL ( I also use science books, workbooks and maths textbooks from school)
eee The essay structure ( I think) will be 1) A scientific report consisting of an aim, hypothesis, method, discussion with validity, reliability... conclusion etc. (again you can ask chat gpt for feedback on this. 2) A "creative" essay where you receive a prompt and use some light scientific knowledge to create a creative-ish but mainly scientific piece basically following the report structure less and more focusing on your interpretation of the information given.
The scientific multiple choice will be based off the year 9 curriculum topics so your textbooks or resources from school would really be beneficial for this (or chat gpt bahah). Basically, everything is to test the extent of your general science knowledge. (idk if that made sense, if you scroll up the explanations are much better.

Do u guys have any time management tips during the tests?? Especially for maths and NR? Currently that’s what I’m struggling with. Also has anyone found the strive for excellence practice tests useful?

I'm a former student who attended both JAC and Brain works, and in my opinion, I don't think that either of those will prepare you extremely well, unless you take a JAC course that includes trial test, as it may help you get into the habit of time management. I recommend you take a year higher as well in order to gain the best chance in learning and studying for the test.
