      • IZM Hi, the JMSS test is soon, but I'm happy with helping your child with Numerical Reasoning. I'm a year nine currently though...

      • I'm going to assume you making subject selections for VCE and not electives in yr 10 because if you worrying about electives I would recommend just choosing subjects you enjoy. I am a yr 10 right now that is choosing VCE subjects and I've gotten a lot of advice from people who scored really well in VCE and these are the main points.
        Most people say to do "subjects that you love" and an element of this is true however you also want to do well in VCE and doing 4 humanities subjects alongside drama isn't going to do you much good. Even though I've been told spesh maths is a drag and many stories about people dropping it, I will still most likely choose it just because I enjoy maths in general and wouldn't mind working hard to do well in spesh. So if you enjoy maths take spesh as it will scale up insanely even if you do average at it. Most subjects such as drama and the ADT sorta world scale down a lot and if you want to do well in VCE they aren't recommended. A rule of thumb is probably to pick subjects you know scale well and that you enjoy so working hard in them isn't such a drag. Other than that VCE is just about working hard. Personally, I will most likely be choosing English, Spesh maths, Methods, Physics, Chem, and for yr 11 3/4 Physical Education as Suzanne only allows 1 3/4 in yr 11 unless you get A+ in 90% of your assessments which is nearly impossible.

      • IZM Hi Wanted to check, if your daughter went to any tuition. I am considering a good one but cannot decide for my daughter too. She is in GWSC in Glen Waverly from this year.

        • Hi Izm, I can't say much, so here's some resources!

          The official place to get VCE information:
          https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/curriculum/vce/Pages/Index.aspx

          You can find lots of info here in the forums/articles too:
          https://atarnotes.com/articles/2016/07/21/vce-subject-selection-guide

          Explanation of study scores on reddit:
          https://www.reddit.com/r/vce/comments/gatlse/i_only_got_x_on_my_sac_can_i_still_get_a_50/

          Hopefully others will add on to this, and you understand all this- good luck!

        • IZM As far as I’m aware (please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) for getting in, McRob is more competitive than Nossal (MacRob - 3+ superiors, Nossal 1+ superiors: give or take, you could still get in with less or not get with more all depending on the competitiveness of your current cohort) however, your preferences should be more focussed on what school you think would suit you better as a learner, as the schools are different. The most obvious difference between MacRob and Nossal is that MacRob is single sex (females), whilst Nossal is co-ed. Another factor you should consider is how far away these schools are from you - this is what pulled me towards Nossal over MacRob, as Nossal is only 10 minutes away from me, rather than MacRob which is more than an hour away. I can’t really go into specifics of the culture and learning style of each school, however, I’m sure there is information about this online - especially on the archived atar notes forum for selective school admission, which I found particularly useful when not only learning about other student’s experiences at selective schools and making my preference decisions, but also for practicing for the exam. If you have any other questions, I’m happy to answer to the best of my ability.

          Best of luck for the test!

          Some information was mentioned in the list of QR code questions on compass;

          The school does not offer a bus service as the scope of travel for our students is too wide to fund a bus.
          A private bus company that is not associated with the school provides bus transport from the south easter suburbs from Rowville to Oakleigh. This bus is not organised by the school. If parents are interested in further information, please contact info@lankatours.com.au
          Students travelling on the public transport network will be provided with the details of ‘transport buddies’ should they wish to connect with an older student to travel with. There are students on each train line who have volunteered to help our new Mac.Robbians navigate the system whilst they build their confidence.

        • IZM Good on your daughter! I'm not sure what to expect for the interview, but normally they would ask your daughter questions, and in order to stand out, make sure to answer in detail and note her achievements as well.
          Yes, I'm pretty sure the 2nd round offers are over. Third round will be 19th of October.
