Hi everyone! I completed VCE in 2022 with an ATAR of 99.85, as well as perfect study scores of 50 in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematical Methods. In 2023, I was awarded a Premier's VCE award in Biology, and have accumulated over 250 hours of tutoring. In 2024, I will be offering tutoring for VCE Biology and Mathematical Methods.
My lessons will be run with three core principles in mind.
1. A heavy emphasis on understanding and breaking down the nuances and "why's" behind each topic, which I believe is fundamental to answering any application question.
2. Learning clear, step-by-step approaches to tackling difficult "separator" questions i.e. not just understanding the answer itself, but the thought process from initially reading --> answering the question
3. Acquiring high utility, exam-focused techniques and strategies (such as breaking down the marking criteria of ambiguous biology questions, or systematic processes to reduce 'silly mistakes' in methods) that will help you maximise your marks across the various SACs and examinations throughout the year.Additionally, of course I will be providing:
- Any assistance requested outside-of-class; be it answering questions or marking written responses etc
- Access to all the resources that helped me achieve the scores I did- including my bounded reference for methods and over 120 pages of handwritten notes that completely cover ever inch of the current VCE Biology study design
- Year-long support and advice for dealing with stress, burnout and managing the demands of VCE overall** Also more than happy to provide mentorship and guidance for my students interested in studying medicine (I myself am currently studying medicine at Monash)
Having achieved amongst the very top of the state for the subjects that I am teaching, I believe that my wealth of knowledge and experience can greatly benefit any student, irrespective of what you are aiming for.
Lessons will be 90mins long and run weekly in extremely small groups of 2-4 students, ensuring that each student's personal concerns and questions can be thoroughly addressed. As such, feel free to bring along a friend or two. Alternatively, I will endeavour to place you with other student(s) of similar learning styles and goals, such that lessons can be better tailored to suit your individual needs
If any of this sounds interesting to you, or you have any questions at all; then please email me at freddotutoring@gmail.com; we can organise a call to see if I am the right fit for you!
Entry #13 - 24/05/2023
Phew, it's really Week 5, and it seems that it is officially SAC season. Yesterday I had the first part of my Spesh SAC, surprisingly, it was actually not that difficult! Today I had my Physics SAC on Electricity, Magnetism and Gravity, which thankfully, I studied for it, and found it easy. Tomorrow is the final part of my Spesh SAC, I'm really looking forward to finishing it. Despite my excitement, my calendar is looking bleak. I will be have a SAC every week until the end of the term, and next week will be Methods (yet again, in 2 parts like Spesh, but it's methods, so I'll be fine). On an unrelated note, I'm doing something I know I shouldn't be doing, but I'm watching the LOTR films whilst reading the books, I finished the Fellowship of the Ring and have begun The Two Towers. But I'll finish the book and then continue with the films. Other than that, it seems that I'll have to hit the books.
Tasks
Revise Complex Numbers and Vectors.
Annotate Argument Analysis article.
Begin Methods revision.
Have a wonderful day
Term 2, Week 5
Hi everyone! It seems like forever since I've updated this journal, but it has been only two weeks. I had a lot of things going on. Last week was a blur - I had a pile of tests that I needed to take and etc. I also ended up catching a cold, where my nose has become a fountain of snot, which really didn't make things any better. But since I feel better now, I was thinking that I should start early on preparing for my exams and assessments in the coming weeks. And I've also discovered a passion for drumming!
I don't have any big assessments this week, so I will devote this week to preparing for my assessments early on and planning a revision schedule for the exam.
Here are my goals for this week!
Finish making the PPT
Catch up on the subjects I've missed
Go over the text again - collect quotes/evidence per theme
Take care everyone, and stay warm!

Greetings, apologies for the inconsistencies between entries, but man, it's already Week 4, that's what's so scary, time feels so quick! Other than that, I'll have to summarise shortly what occured during the short hiatus.
I did my English Text Response SAC.
I began reading The Lord of the Rings (Highly recommend).
We have started Logic and Proof in Specialist Maths.
Enough about the past, what about what happens next? This week, I have my Electrolysis SAC on Thursday, next week, I have a 4 period Spesh SAC (begins on Tuesday and finishes on Thursday), alongside my Physics SAC. How am I feeling? Uncertain, I feel underprepared, even though I have done enough. Recently, I have been applying some good habits such as: going to bed by 9pm, reading, time management. My parents keep telling me this: "my source of stress is from having no schedule", and I do agree, alongside the benefits of sleeping 8 hours, studying consistently will eleviate my stress. The take away? Studying consistently and doing my homework will definitely ease the sense of uncertainty within me. Well, I gotta get a move on!
Tasks
Revise Electrolytic Cells.
Revise Vectors and Complex numbers. Complete practice questions.
Complete Argument Analysis questions.
Have a good day
It's been a while since I've been back here, but that's because not anything interesting has been going on. I have found a way to be productive though: overstimulating myself!
I'm always tired after school and on the weekends, so I use 2 productive apps on my phone (forest and yeolpumta), I have a tab open of "here.fm" (a studying lobby website), and a tab of loud music blasting in my headphones. And it works! I also use the pomodoro technique (studying 25 minutes, resting for 5, repeat). I guess what also helps is that I genuinely like all my subjects. During my studies, I do most of the "fun" homework, leaving all the "hard" stuff at home, where I can put myself in the productive zone.Honestly, I get more stuff done during the holidays than I do during school terms. However, an advantage of that is since 2 of my subjects are english, I read and annotate all my novels before school, so I hardly have any homework for those subjects, and I can focus on my other ones.
Also, I've learned that there is a fine line when trying to help out your peers with school work. I've learned now that to avoid plagiarism, just create a separate word doc from your original work, where if it is maths work, put exactly what you wrote (it's fine if people copy and paste that work, as with maths there is only one answer); if it is a worded question, don't write an actual answer! What's better is to point the reader in the right direction- explain certain terms in the question and use dot points when saying how to solve the answer- that way your peers are actually using their brain instead of just copy and pasting. This only applies to weekly/daily homework.
That's really all there is I have to say/rant, have a good day!

Term 2, Week 2 Reflection & Week 3 Goals
Time really flies. I can still remember my first day of year 10 so vividly, but now we're heading towards the half of this term. In a few weeks, it will be halfway through year 10!
Week 2 was busy as well. It was mostly learning the content, since there will be tests in the following weeks. I have my assessment for Japanese next week and possibly a chemistry quiz as well. I feel pretty prepared, but I've been struggling to not go over the word limit. It's really hard controlling the size of my paragraph, since I feel like everything is relevant.
Fun fact, I was zoning out during my humanities class since it was right before lunch and the lesson itself was really boring. But then my teacher suddenly asked me a question in front of the whole class, and I totally blanked out at that moment and ended up giving a completely irrelevant answer
Here are my goals for week 3!
Plan for 2 essay prompts about my text
Go over the Japanese writing resources
Print out my work experience form
Have a nice weekend everybody!

Term 2, Week 2
Hi there again! I was hoping to update this journal over the weekend, but this site had shut down. It's okay, I can always update it anytime.
So, last week was a breeze. I had a lot of work to do over the weekend, but I ended up watching a drama and I was in tears after it lol. It was just so touching. But nonetheless, I've been able to stick to my revision goals and using my commuting time wisely. I've definitely been struggling to get out of bed in the morning because I am always so tired.
These are my goals for this week!
1. Go over 4 past papers for math:
I have a math test coming up, so I'm hoping to get as many past papers done. For now, I'm looking at 4.
I'm hoping to get a good grasp of the marking scheme, identify my errors, and wrap my head around some challenging trick questions.
2. Write 3 practice essays for Japanese and get them marked:
Another assessment for Japanese! I've realised that time is essential for Japanese writing tests, so I'm hoping to elevate my level of writing as much as I can in timed conditions!
I hope to reduce my spelling errors, and write kanji correctly throughout my preparation.
3. Further annotate my text and deepen my understanding of it:
Currently, I have a decent understanding of the text I'm reading, but it's not enough. I want to find some key moments in the text and link it back to themes.
I'm going to brain dump all of my existing knowledge into a mind map and see how much I know about the text specifically!
4. Start reading the book I've always longed to read!
- My greatest goal for this week! I've always been fascinated with Greek mythology, having read all of Rick Riordan's series. I'm hoping to start read a Greek play!
5. Exercise 10 minutes a day:
- Honestly not my favourite, but for the sake of my wellbeing, I'm going to have to exercise sooner or later. Since I'm terrible at PE nor do I enjoy it, I'll start off with something light. I'll go for a walk for at least 10 minutes a day!
Phew, that was quite tiring. Anyway, I'm off to start my homework. All the best for week 2 everyone (and university students, though I don't know what week you guys are in)!

Well? It's the first entry of the term. I hope you all had a great break, other than that, things are looking quite rough. Today I had my Differential Calculus test for specialist maths, and only now have we started Differential Calculus in methods. In roughly two weeks is my English text reponse SAC. Next week, on Monday, is the due date for my Chemistry Poster (on Monday, the Further maths students have a day long SAC
). On an unrelated note, my current DM said that I would have to DM at least once for a campaign, my social and communication skills are already bad enough
. We also started Gravitational and Electromagnetic Fields in physics, and my teacher already handed us a ton of VCAA questions, so much paper, I'll tell you. My teachers have been warning me that this term is going to be a tough one, and term 3 will be tougher, I gotta get a move on!
Tasks
Watch 4F Edrolo for Chemistry
Do Chapter 4F exercises
Watch 5A & 5B for Physics
Do Chapter 5A & 5B exercises
High Ground scene analysis
Have an amazing day
Welcome back to the term 2! Are you ready for a subject selection rant? No? Oh well, you're gonna have to sit through one, so here we go!
The current subjects year 11/2023: 1/2 English Mainstream, 1/2 lit, 1/2 physics, 3/4 global politics.
Year 12/2023 plan (all 3/4): Mainstream, lit, physics, and psychology (there is room for another subject, but I'm not sure).Rn I have 5 subjects I definitely know what I want to, and I could pick up another subject. I dropped my vsv subject, I was not fit to thrive in online school, so my last subject will have to be one from school. Best choice is englang, but that means all three english subjects (so one will go automatically to bottom 5/6), and a LOT of writing.
A few years ago I knew that english and science was my main strengths, but I thought both subjects were really boring. Fast forward to now, where I realise those two are the only subjects I actually can survive through. After a lot of thinking, I've realised that I love researching about a lot of subjects like maths and humanities, but that I suck at them in school. If I could choose my atar subjects based if I had to do personal research, it would be humanities and visual arts. I really like social science, and would like to pursue something relating to it in the future, but I really hate the high school subjects- hopefully uni will be different. I know that even though science is easy for me, I would hate to base my whole career on it. I've dropped and picked up so many subjects, and thought that I definitely knew what career I wanted to go to, but I'm very indecisive. I guess I will leave this all to future me.Goals for Term 2
So... I guess I've spent my holidays quite efficiently. I was able to build up on my English writing skills, and I got some practice done as well, including analysing my text that we're going to be reading this term. But I guess I didn't also do completely well, since I neglected almost all of my other subjects completely. Anyway, since it's in the past, I can't really do anything about it other than learning from my mistakes, and most importantly, moving forward.
This brings to me to my goals for term 2. To be honest, I've always been that person where I would set really high goals, fail to achieve that, and end up procrastinating. Nonetheless, I have gotten better at setting more realistic goals over the years.. And here we are! These are my goals for term 2:
1. Get out of bed immediately after the alarm goes on. No snoozing!
- This goal is a bit vague compared to the others, but I'm going to have to force myself to actually get myself out of bed. It's actually going to be harder since winter is coming, and I can't help but to nestle in my bed during these times.
2. Squeeze in 30 minutes of studying before I eat breakfast.
Bit of a personal note, but I'm actually preparing for the JLPT examination at the end of the year. And I've got a vast amount of vocabulary and kanji I have to go over. I want to prepare little bit by bit, but also consistently, and not cramming (like I usually do). Here's the plan I devised.
What am I going to do? I am going to revise the vocabulary, etc. I've learnt the day before. I am going to do look, say, write, cover, check. I am also going to go over 3 sets of JLPT vocabulary.
3. Use my commuting time wisely.
I have actually wasted my commuting time during term 1. Considering that I need to get a lot of work done now, I need to utilise this time very wisely. Here's what I'm going to do.
I get car sick very easily. So, I can't really do stuff like catching up on my maths homework or planning for an essay, because I'm going to end up feeling nauseous. Instead, on the way to school, I'm going to listen to the news (specifically economics related) and also NHK. This way, I'll be able to expand my knowledge and improve my listening skills for Japanese.
On the way home, I'm actually going to use this time to plan for what I need to get done on that day, and use the remaining time to chill, since I'm usually completely worn out by the end of school.
4. Revise, revise, revise! Make sure I go over what I learnt right afterschool, through implementing active recall.
I think this one is my most important goal. As I mentioned earlier, I used to be, and I am still sort of the person who always ends up cramming for a test or an assignment. Spacing out my revision blocks is a task for the future in the meanwhile, so I'm actually going to try my best to at least get my daily revision done properly.
Right after I get home, I'm going to dedicate at least 30 minutes to go over what I've learnt during the day and refine my notes if I have to. Then, I'll brain dump everything that I've learnt on that day (through a mind-map, etc.) and identify my missing gaps.
Anyway, that's my goals for term 2! Good luck to me, and everyone out there!

I commend those reading this- but really, please enjoy your holidays (preferably with limited attention to school)!
My current routine rn unfortunately has been wake up early, sleep again, wake up in the afternoon to do hours of school work, then sleep. At least I'm getting work done?
My school's holiday homework guidelines tell me that 2 hours should be allocated for each subject (excluding reading), but honestly the way I'm going I'll take up 5 or more hours. Hopefully I don't burnout too quickly.
Oh well, it is only the start of the holidays (but oh boy does time like to sneak up on me), have a good one guys!- Edited
I'm back!
Sorry I sort of dropped off the face of the Earth for almost 4 weeks.
As it tends to do, the end of term got really busy and stressful and I sort of forgot about this journal. But it's over now!
My memory is absolutely awful, so I'm just going to basically summarise what happened during my Parent/Teacher Interviews in week 10 to give an idea of what happened over the past few weeks.Psychology
My teacher said that I'm doing well in Psych, and to keep doing what I'm doing.
I got 80% (24/30) on my OAT which wasn't great but it was expected, when I finished the test I knew that I had lost at least six marks. A lot of people in our class didn't do well though, I think 9 or 10 of 20 students failed and our teacher takes some responsibility for this but also says that we have to work harder as well. So the classes are a lot more no-nonsense now.English
I haven't been assessed on anything yet and due to health issues I don't attend English classes too much, so there wasn't much to discuss, my teacher asked how I think I'm doing and I said that I thought I was doing alright, but I'm not sure I'll get a very high mark on my essay because I couldn't find much motivation.
I really hated reading To Kill a Mockingbird and I know that there are going to be questions about it in the mid-year exam so I'm dreading that too.Maths
Maths is another class that I don't attend very often due to health issues, and I actually missed a test (not because of the regular health stuff though, I got a bad cold and was highly contagious for like 4 days. Otherwise I definitely would've shown up for the test). Anyway, a couple of weeks later I did the test in class under assignment conditions, not test conditions. That same day I had had to do a complicated geometry assignment as well, so I was getting tired of maths but I did the test, and then my teacher graded it in front of me during the Parent/Teacher Interviews which was terrifying. I gave up on the last question but I did pretty alright despite that (85%, 34/40) and my Maths teacher said that I am 'clearly very capable' and he'll be giving me extension work, so that's exciting! I also did perfectly on the geometry assignment, in case you were wondering.Careers
Now with Careers, I legitimately didn't think my Careers teacher even knew who I was. He has never spoken to me in class, except for on the day of the interview to confirm I was still coming. He said that he thinks I'm a good student who just gets on with it and that he has no complaints, which is really really high praise coming from this teacher. He's another one who told me to just keep doing what I'm doing.Creative Writing
My teacher complimented me quite a bit and told me to never stop writing, so a lot of ego-stroking happened here. He mentioned holiday homework (students at this school don't get assigned holiday homework until Year 10, and I guess it was a warning) and I said 'Lovely.'. Apparently that's the first time a student has had that response.
I'm not sure how I did on my writing piece for this class, it's a very risky class to take because it depends almost entirely on personal tastes, but considering the 'never stop writing' comment I'll say I did OK.
Also, in other news, this teacher was reading Good Omens during the term and said that he read the entire thing in the voices of me and one of my friends because it suits our writing styles so perfectly, so it was decided that I'm Neil Gaiman and my friend is Terry Pratchett and that was a very fun conversation.Food Studies
Basically me being in awe of my teacher's handwriting and her telling me over and over that I'm too hard on myself.
We're not getting assessed on this subject until next term, so there's not much more to say.Holiday Homework
I'm looking forward to getting to rest over the holidays a bit, because the term was exhausting, but I have lots of work to do over the holidays as well. I have homework for every class except Maths and Food. My holiday tasks for each class are:Careers
-Work through 1-2 sections of modules
Creative Writing
-Write for (no more than) 10 minutes each morning; 'Stream-of-Consciousness Writing'
-Read 'The Little Prince'
-Write a flash fiction (500 words or less)
English
-Re-read To Kill a Mockingbird (again)
-Watch To Kill a Mockingbird
-Make note of important events in To Kill a Mockingbird
Psychology
-Pre-read chapters for AOS 2
-Take notes on chapters for AOS 2I think that's everything for now, thanks for reading and have an amazing and restful holiday! Take care of yourself.
~ Kisses!- Edited
TERM 1 IS OVER! Wow… that’s really scary… a lot of stuff happened between the last update and now so let’s speedrun.
Chem
I got the score for the chem test I did when I sick… AND I DIDN’T FAIL! Me and this other dude in my class tied for rank 2, which is kinda insane considering I literally ran out of time and had to speed run like 3 pages without double checking my answers. Maybe the batteries were a good thing??? Either way, very proud of myself for not failing that.I also sat my chemistry U3 AOS 1 SAC, it went as smoothly as I could hope for. Ended up with a 48/50, which is not too shabby. I was very happy with that. Redox is my favourite topic in chem. (Not a popular opinion in my class)
Our next SAC is week 2 of term 2, which is terrifying so I gotta get myself together to prepare for that.
English Language
I got my English language SAQ SAC back, and, once again, not too bad. The upper beings must’ve blessed me because I managed to pull an 18/20, which is fantastic considering I literally cried over it after I finished the SAC… yeah it was not a good day.I also sat a second SAC, which was an analytical commentary. I haven’t received the marks for that one yet, I’m not feeling confident about my paragraphs but it is what it is. Will update on how that turns out
01/05/23: Got the SAC back, was kinda mid. 23/30, but I’m not complaining. This means that for the total outcome I achieved a 41/50 which is pretty solid and is considered a pretty high score on the VCAA rubric that my teacher bases his marking on so you know what, I’m very happy with that. Can only work harder from here!
Japanese
Sat a writing SAC for Japanese, in which I got a 13.5/15. It was one of the best essays I’ve ever written so I’m very happy about that.General
We had our data analysis SAC and it was probably one of the worst SACs I’ve ever sat in my life. Nobody in the cohort felt good about it. It wasn’t that the content is hard, like it was really easy but the questions were so confusing and there was no marking scheme so we didn’t really know what was expected of us?It was split into 3 parts, and I cried after part 2 so yeah. Not excited to get my marks back for that one.
It does really upset me though, because I do quite well in the practice exams I’ve done for general so far. I’m very comfortable with test and exam-style questions. But it was an application task and I just don’t do well with those, and I feel like I screwed myself over because I know I know the content, and I know I can do well.
But, at least the exam is worth 60% of the study score. As long as I try my best in the SACs, (whether that means getting a high grade or not), I can still pull through with a decent score if I can do decently on the exam… hopefully.
UPDATE: I got a 36/40! I am very pleasantly surprised, I was not expecting to get that. I’m so happy that I didn’t fail haha, there’s still hope for me.
The plan for these holidays is to get my copious amounts of holiday homework done, do some pre-study for the next AOS, and enjoy my birthday!!
Well, have a lovely holidays everyone! Take a break and relax.
Entry #10 - 5/04/2023
Wow, this term went by really quickly, but I do have to say, I HAVE TONS OF TO WORK TO COMPLETE DURING THE HOLIDAYS. I guess that's fine because I have time, but I just have to hope that it doesn't obstruct my plan to study ahead. Today was the last DnD session of the term, my character (who's name is Sergev) was knocked unconscious, hopefully RNGesus will grant me good rolls for my death saving throws. Also had my Physics SAC, actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would turn out to be. Recently, my motivation to get a high ATAR has increased, and now I'm developing a plan to get one, and it seems that the plan is better started now than later, I'll push forward, full steam ahead!
Tasks (for the holidays)
Physics
Finish logbook and poster
Work on practice VCAA questions booklets
Chemistry
Finish logbook and poster
English
Rewatch High Ground, make timestamps, and do practice paragraphs.
Spesh
Finish set exercises
Do practice complex numbers and vectors questions
Methods
Finish set exercises
Have a good day (and a relaxing holidays)
Entry #9 - 30/03/2023
Do you hear it? It sounds like the end of Term 1 is approaching! It's really shocking to me how quickly this term went by, and now I'm already a one-third of my way in this year (Term 4 isn't really counted as a term). Well? I haven't been making entries since Wednesday last week, so what has been going on? I did my Chemistry Practical for the Practical Investigation assignment on Tuesday, and today we started Circular Functions on Methods and Integral Calculus in Spesh. Oh, and DnD, we continued from last week (my group was sent to Nightstone to due to a goblin raid), and it turns out I'm really good at rolling. The Galvanic Cells SAC was on Monday, and I actually think I did really well, I could answer all questions with confidence, considering the fact that a few weeks ago I couldn't identify what was the anode or the cathode. Although the term is coming to an end, I shouldn't be relaxing. I got work to do!!
Tasks
Complete Checkpoint 2 on Physics logbook.
Write two TEEL paragraphs for English
Have a great day
Entry #8 - 22/03/2023
Apologies to the infrequent entries, but I do have to say, things are going quite well for me (other than the fact that I have to do 2 practical investigations at once), things seem to be favourable. Today was the beginning of the DnD campaign, the one I have been waiting for and it was fun. I also got my SAC scores for English, Chemistry and Physics. 56, 79 (surprising cause I winged it) and 78 (the Motion part was absolutely cooked) for each subject respectively. I feel disappointed, but I also imagine this as a lesson to prepare for future SACs, although, the Creative SAC only counts to 7% of the study score. I have a Methods test tomorrow and a Chemistry SAC next week on Monday, which I have been studying for. In other good news, the Chemistry teachers are preparing for an excursion in University of Melbourne
.
Tasks
Finish Checkpoint 1 of Physics logbook
Make methodology on Chemistry logbook
Send character sheet pdf to DM
Make Methods bound reference
Have a splendid day
Entry #7 - 15/03/2023
Seems that good things are coming, I just did the first part of my physics SAC (and I think I did really well), the second part is going to be on Friday, so I'll make sure to study well for that, and most importantly, we had our first Session Zero in the DnD club, we'll be playing in a land known as Faerun, so it looks like I'll have to do some reading of the Faerun lore (also sending my DM my character sheet to make my character compatible with the lore). Differential Calculus is fun, and we also started Exponentials and Logarithms, to be fair, spesh and methods are really chill subjects if you enjoy doing maths. I'll be having my second Chemistry SAC on Galvanic Cells on week 9, so I'll definitely put effort this time.
Tasks
Start Differential Calculus exercises.

Watch Galvanic Cells on Edrolo
Have a good day

Wow, it's been almost a week since I updated this. Sorry, but I did say that the motivation would run out fast.
Anyway, not much interesting happened over the week, though I did gain possession of one of my friends' arms. That was fun. I also figured out that I have to change my timetable again because I was a walking zombie by the end of last week. Don't let me forget that. The long weekend was great, but I should have been using it as a chance to rest and catch up on work. I did not do that. I spent the weekend drinking and pulling all-nighters with my dear cousin.
On that note, can everyone please take a moment to admire the beauty that is Natasha Lyonne? God, I could talk about that woman for hours. She's heavenly.
Also, has anyone seen Firebite, and should I watch it? Because I know Yael Stone is in it and she's really cute but I'd like to know if it's any good before wasting my time on it.I'm really stressed about Psychology, I have so little confidence in it and I'm terrified. I plan to spend my night re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird, watching American Reunion (guess why), and maybe doing a little Psych revision. Yes I am aware that my sleep schedule is terrible, but I don't have to be up until 10 tomorrow, so, does that make things any better?
Wish me luck,
~ Kisses!
