DumbNerd replace chemistry

Chem is a prereq for Monash’s undergrad med course (the only undergrad med course in VIC) and a few of the common med-related back up courses, so this is probably less ideal. (Seeing as OP is in year 9 though, I’d worry about course prereqs next year i.e. in year 10.)

I will add, at least back in the day, most VIC schools wouldn’t let you take Spesh without Methods, so don’t be surprised @apenguinstudies if they say you must take Methods if you want to take Spesh.

apenguinstudies I'm in QCE and here you MUST do Methods with Specialist, so I'm sure that's the same case for you. There's a very good synergy between the two subjects and your ATAR will skyrocket if you do well.

I think 2 sciences is enough, since bio especially is good for clinical work but idk (I'm doing Physics and Chem). As a whole, Methods is the better choice imo, so do that instead of psych or replace chemistry. Don't look at this as advice but just my opinion hehe.

P.S. You're in yr9, so don't stress! Enjoy this peaceful school year and enjoy the time with your friends! Nothing to worry about rn...

Check with your school to see if they’d approve of this plan. Spesh U3/4 assumes you have done Methods U3/4 either before or at the same time (this is from the study design), so your school may make Methods compulsory if you plan to take Spesh. If this is the case, I’d ask if you could take Psych early (U1/2 in Yr 10) and have a 7th subject. Take this with a grain of salt though; I’ve not been in VCE for a long time and am not that updated.

I got the info pack via email to my parents on Friday. We should also be getting an update on compass this week. Maybe check in junk if you can’t find it?

The information was mainly regarding uniform, the booklist, important dates for orientation and the first day and the musical.

I hope i can make some friends here as well bc none of my friends are coming with me and best of luck to all of u <

I know lots of people who are the only ones going from their school, so you definetley aren’t the only one. Feel free to just have a chat/ get to know people on this thread and hopefully we can organise another meet up on orientation.

my advice: chem and bio will be useful, but just choose the subjects you enjoy and are good at. High school subjects matter less than you think

vce subjects don't really matter too much, what you want is to do really well in those subjects if you are looking for undergrad entry into medicine. Often the only prerequisite is English and chem.

But as others have said you have plenty of time to think about what subjects you want/need to do

I like that you have aspirations. I just think its too early to be thinking about vce. Just enjoy your years before the hard yards start. You can start thinking about mid-end of year 9 about accelerated vce subjects and looking into pathways.

Those are good subjects and they scale well too, (and chem + bio will prob help in uni). I did all those subjects except I didn't do chinese. but keep in mind all these subjects are pretty hard. Also, ik people who did further instead of spesh and they've gotten good scores too. So overall, do a hard subject if ur confident (like if you think spesh is too hard in yr 11 then maybe you could switch to further in yr 12) and also if you like it (the subject's only going to get harder if you don't like it). Chem is a prereq for many science courses and I'm pretty sure methods is too (I would recheck that).
Otherwise you still got a few more years to see if there are other subjects you like, just work hard and focus on what you are doing currently.
... (you could try working a little bit ahead if you think you're ready for it, I did that in maths in yr 8 and that helped me quite a bit in yr 11 +12)
